Fashion: Set Build workshop

Last week we had a set build workshop with Mike Cooper who listened to our ideas & concept as well as viewing some of our diagrams, floor plans & model. Mike raised some questions about scale, camera position and prop & model positioning which we were left to discuss; this really helped us as some of the ideas hadn't been thought about before in our group.

We were then taught how to build our own 2x1m board for our photo shoot, this was very helpful for future boards we may have to build depending on how many will be available & we will need for our shoot.

Afterwards we were able to construct a rough idea of what we plan to build when doing our set which was particularly helpful to create a better feel of how many boards we will need and where we will need to position the camera.

This exercise also helped to work out possible dimensions and distances particularly between the window & set which we found would need to be very deep with a long lens to create the right effect while including everything we needed to in the frame.
These approximate dimensions were the main distances we calculated while doing some test shots which we found to give a similar look to what we originally imagined when doing diagrams & drawings.

  • Between the camera & window frame- 9ft
  • Between the window frame and the male model- 3ft
  •  Between the male model & female model- 14ft
  • Between the female model and the door- 2ft
  • Window frame size- 5x3ft
